Community Advocacy Program
Program Description
Tlingit & Haida’s Community Advocacy program provides easy access to mental health support, crisis intervention, relocation during emergencies, and substance use treatment services, in support of tribal citizens affected by crime. The program is partly funded through grants from the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs. The goal of the program is to:
- Provide client advocacy through times of crisis related to victimization
- Provide some financial support while promoting self-sufficiency (geographic limitations apply)

Advocacy Services Available
Support & Accompaniment
- Accompany participants to Tribal and State of Alaska court proceedings
- Accompany participants to law enforcement meetings
- Police interviews
- Meetings with prosecutors
- Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) exams
Referrals to Services
- Housing
- Mental health & substance use treatment
- Crisis intervention
Assistance with Applications
- Long-term stabilization such as housing applications
- Food program applications
- Child care applications
- Employment applications

There are three ways to apply or to refer a tribal citizen:

- Call the Community Advocacy program during office hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
- Email your interest or referral to community_advocacy@ccthita-nsn.gov
Email is checked each weekday by community advocates. Your information is held to the highest regard of confidentiality.
