Reentry & Recovery Program

Studies show people released from prison are less likely to reoffend and less likely to go back to prison if they have a stable, secure, and supportive place to live.

Yak’éiyi Kustí Yinaadei Hít
(“Going Towards the Good Life House”)

Traditionally, as many as 100 people lived in longhouses together, working and honoring one another.

The Program

Tlingit & Haida’s Reentry & Recovery department operates three properties for men and women. We accept participants returning from incarceration, residential treatment, as well as people in recovery.

The program provides a healthy foundation that is built on culturally responsive services and case management.

Our program includes the following phases:

  • Phase I : Spring | Taakw.eetí (Survival)
  • Phase II: Summer | Kutaan (Choices)
  • Phase III: Fall | Yeis (Influence)
  • Phase IV: Winter | Táakw (Maturity)

Using a “family” cohort model, the program is based on Peer Accountability where participants are expected to:

  • Participate in phase programming
  • Support one another for successful reentry including accountability to self and the community
  • Honor “Our Way of Life” and the Southeast Traditional Values
  • Promote self-sufficiency

Living Space & Guidelines

All properties will have a Participant Manager living onsite between 9:00 pm to 6:00 am. Participants will be provided an individual bedroom with shared laundry, common living room, kitchen, and bathroom facilities.

Upon acceptance into the program, participants are required to follow all guidelines:
